In 2011, we opened our showroom at 59 Pimlico Road, in London's foremost interior design district, to showcase our design work and make our furniture designs available to the public for the first time. The showroom offers an eclectic selection of furniture and accessories that is representative of the broad scope of our design work. From hand-carved pieces inspired by Irish and English Georgian originals to handmade contemporary furniture and lighting, all designed by or exclusively for Coote & Bernardi, we aim to offer a variety of styles, suitable for a broad range of applications.

Having furniture made is not only an exciting and rewarding process; it also results in interiors with more character than can be achieved with more standard range furniture. Being well-versed in the history and diversity of furniture design and with an extensive network of workshops with a wide range of different skills, we are ideally positioned to create the ideal furniture for your interior scheme.
Our strength in design combined with excellent and longstanding relationships with several first-rate joinery firms means that we are able to carry out bespoke joinery of the very highest standard. We have designed and realised many impressive features, from walk-in wardrobes and fitted dressing rooms to libraries and panelled rooms. We also specialise in the design and production of bespoke handmade kitchens in both traditional and more contemporary styles; made by hand, in England, by master joiners using no pre-fabricated components, our kitchens offer an entirely personalised approach and very competitive pricing.
In the last 12 years, Coote & Bernardi has refurbished many London townhouses and apartments. In that time we have established our own in-house construction team, along with a network of carefully vetted, independent building teams, overseen by dedicated and highly experienced project managers. This leaves us ideally positioned to offer a comprehensive design-and-build service for Central London projects. We work only with trusted professionals and enjoy preferential relationships with many suppliers.
Moreover, we constantly strive to keep costs down and always negotiate the best possible terms for our clients with every firm that we work with. This service is ideal when time is at a premium, as Coote & Bernardi takes responsibility for every aspect of the project, leaving the client free to enjoy the process, knowing that every detail is in hand.
In 2005, John Coote and Gabriel Bernardi became acquainted
through family connections and soon realised that their common
interests and specific areas of specialisation made theirs a
natural partnership. Both are interested in the way that
interiors are used and the impact that design can have on
people’s lives. Both spend a great deal of time travelling
the world and following the latest developments in interior
design, whilst also having a passionate interest in past
design movements and the designers and people of those times.
Research plays a key role in the design process and Coote & Bernardi
possesses an extensive architectural and design reference library,
along with a collection of textile and furniture designs from
around the world.

Coote & Bernardi is proud to introduce a new range of bespoke furniture. The collection is inspired by some of the most well-renowned furniture designers of the 20th century such as André Arbus, Jean Michele Frank, and design-houses such as Maison Jansen. The range is characterised by the use of luxurious materials such as vellum, parchment, lacquer, fine wood veneers and marble.
Coote & Bernardi’s aim is not simply to replicate their work, but rather to study it, to see what they saw and so allow it to inform our own design work as. Each piece has been hand-crafted in England by Coote & Bernardi’s master craftsmen. Coote & Bernardi’s furniture encompasses a variety of styles, suitable for a broad range of applications.

Our new furniture range pays homage to the Godfathers of design
John Coote was founder and principal designer of Cootehill
International and Cootehill Design in New York City. Born
and brought up on his father’s sheep station in the Australian
outback, he went on to become a designer of international renown.
In over thirty years in the design business he completed many
outstanding projects, from country estates and period townhouses,
to corporate headquarters and several ocean-going yachts; though
he was perhaps best known for his restoration of historic houses
and newly built residences in the classical style.
He was renowned
for his extensive knowledge of design and architectural history
which informs Coote & Bernardi's work, with a focus on meticulous
research and historical correctness. Among the restoration projects
he had undertaken was his family’s ancestral home, Bellamont Forest,
in Ireland. The property, which is one of the finest examples of
Palladian architecture in Ireland, has received international
acclaim in interior design journals and reference books.

Gabriel Bernardi is a London-based designer with extensive
experience in period townhouse renovation and restoration.
He is a specialist in architectural detailing and has
undertaken numerous large-scale refurbishment projects in
the Mayfair and Belgravia areas of the city, highly praised
for their attention to classical detailing and the quality
of the construction work; a fact which reflects his belief
that an interior should be a visual delight, even before the
first curtain is hung. Gabriel strives to create interiors
which are timeless and enduring, which he achieves by applying
pleasing and harmonious classical proportions, however
contemporary the setting;
in his view, even the most avant-garde, experimental
concept, when rooted in sound, classical principles, will stand
the test of time. He has a keen eye for detail and is passionate
about craftsmanship and the quality of the materials and finishes
used, favouring traditional materials and time honoured techniques.

Dermott Farrell
Dermott comes from a property and construction background and is involved in providing
clients with the opportunity to build a home of architectural grandeur. He is particularly
interested in palladian architecture. He works closely with architects and interior
designers as well as finding land for new construction schemes for our clients
requirements in Ireland and abroad.

Caroline’s interest in decorating emerged through helping friends design their own homes.
Following her passion of interior design, in particular the classical French style, she
has now joined Coote & Bernardi to look after discerning clients in Ireland who are
seeking glamorously styled yet practical interiors.

2 Square is a general contractor supporting architects,
designers and developers in the implementation of interior
design solutions for projects including hotels, flagship
stores for high-end retailers, museums and public spaces.
2 Square is equipped to handle the design, engineering and
construction phases of large-scale projects, and has its
own manufacturing facilities in Italy producing furniture
and fittings for any application. Coote & Bernardi enjoys
an extensive collaboration with 2 Square, which provides
Coote & Bernardi with the infrastructure to undertake
large-scale commercial projects.
